Excerpts –

“I recently spoke at a TEDx event conducted by Hewlett Packard’s software division at Bangalore. The objective of TED talks is always to bring in people from varied walks of life to speak about their unique ideas and experiences to benefit the world, with the slogan ‘Ideas Worth Spreading.’ And every time I am asked to speak at such an event, we have few cultural programs for sure. But this time I was pleasantly surprised because I was about to see one of the best Bharatanatyam performances ever and it was given by a man with incredible grace and poise. He later spoke and introduced himself as Charles Ma, who is from north-east India but grew up in Bangalore and was brought up around a Tamilian community in Bangalore.

His journey of becoming a Bharatanatyam dancer, a domain that is dominated by women, was fascinating and his performance was a delight, making Bharatanatyam so cool. He reminded me that culture has no boundaries and culture brings us all together in harmony and peace. And certainly, Bengaluru is a melting pot of cultures across boundaries, ethnicities, genders and generations! A thumbs up to Bangalore for keeping our culture live and kicking!”
