Home » Career Advice » How To Deal With Horrible Managers? | Career Advice

We all have dealt with managers in our career. Some of them are quite helpful and provide us invaluable insights. Although, some of us also term some managers as “Horrible.” We have always been irritated by such managers. In this post, Vishwas Mudagal talks about how to deal with “Horrible Managers” and methods to learn valuable things from them.

A few weeks back, Zahid Hossain requested me to comment on a critical observation on Horrible Bosses. He wrote-“Most of us always show gratitude to managers who make positive impacts on our career. But, what about the ones who are bad? Many of us were forced to move out of our comfort zones just because we wanted freedom from our ‘so-called’ horrible managers.”

My view is that Horrible Bosses could be a blessing in disguise who could push you out of your orbit into a much bigger path. Or they could just be toxic even when you look back in life. We cannot generalize things.

However IMO we should always see things positively. Adversities come in our lives to make us better, stronger & smarter. Bad bosses are those adversities that you have to overcome. Let’s be practical. Not every manager is a leader who would bring the best in you. Or they tried, but you weren’t receptive to their encouragement because you were too young or your priorities were different. Or you got stuck in office politics.

Whatever said & done, they made you who you are today. They gave you valuable experience of dealing with tough/unfavorable situations. You are well-rounded today because of bad bosses & not only because of good ones. So, make peace with your past & move on.
