Someone asked me to give him shoes of his size,’ wrote a professional to me about an interesting event.
‘When I turned back, I saw an old man perhaps in his late 70s. He had mistaken me for a sales guy in the mall. Maybe because I was wearing the same colored t-shirt.’ ‘I felt so embarrassed,’ he continued. ‘I was about to yell at him, but something told me not to do so. I smiled at him & started suggesting shoes that might suit him better.’
I was stunned reading this. ‘Within a minute, his daughter came & told the old man that I was not the sales guy. He felt terrible & they started apologizing. I asked them not to. They thanked me & we parted ways.’
‘Why would you do that?’ I asked.
‘For one, he was a senior citizen. We ought to help them, no matter what. But really think about it. If I had yelled, that would have been an acceptable reaction.
Goodness is surprising us right now. What has happened to humanity? If we cannot accommodate simple & innocent mistakes of each other, what is the difference between us and animals?’ he concluded.
Such people make us realize humanity is still intact. Perhaps if we all keep our egos aside for a bit & have a large heart, most problems would vanish from this world.
I hope this gives you the motivation to do more acts of kindness without expecting any returns!
