I got hold of the latest (8 July 2007) edition of The Week magazine. The cover story highlights the growing popularity and addiction of community websites in India. It is predicted that India’s Internet user base will touch 100 million by March 2008, up from the current 40 million.

The article covers the top community websites in India (ofcourse Orkut tops the list) and also delves into the changing tastes and specialized interests of Indian netizens. According to the article “43 per cent of Internet users who are part of online communities felt as strongly about their virtual communities as they did about their real world ones.”

Do read it here at the-week.com. Hope you find it interesting.

I agree with the authors that the power of community websites is set to grow exponentially. This is just the beginning…!

Cheers to Web 2.0!
