Fun at Work” is the latest buzzword in the corporate world today! I have time and again heard those HR managers chanting “Fun is our corporate mantra! We are always exploring innovative ways to keep our employees happy.” Employees are king today and companies are ready to go an extra mile to make them feel special.

Infosys BPO writes on its website – BPO employees perform important and serious work for their client companies. But they are also young and energetic, and there is no reason why the work atmosphere should not be fun and exciting. Infosys BPO has a chief fun officer to promote fun at work — games, quizzes, puzzles, celebrations, and team huddles are all part of a Infosys BPOite’s work day. The campus is frequently abuzz with events and intra-office competitions. We celebrate festivals and showcase our office to our families on Family Days.
With attrition rates reaching 15-30% in IT and 40%-100% in BPO sectors, HR managers have an uphill task to hold the employees back. Salary hikes are not enough and hence employees now get huge joining bonus, mobiles, broadband connections, paid vacations and much more.
Most of the large corporate players have luxurious campuses where staff can swim, play golf and jog. Recently Wipro, for example, held the grand finale of its ‘Spark’ program, which was a day-long sports event and family entertainment day held in a stadium in Bangalore.
Infosys recently invited Sagarika Ghatke- remember Preeti Sabarwal of Chak De India! movie – for their Asia Pacific “Awards of Excellence” ceremony.

We see many cool designations cropping up everyday – Chief Fun Officer (CFO), Chief Ethics Officer (CEO), Chief Morale Officer (CMO) and more! The bottom line is to keep the employees happy and retain them.
