A report by Lean In & Survey Monkey has shown that 60% of men are now concerned or scared of mentoring women. All this because of the #MeToo campaigns. This has shot up 33% from last year.

Worse, manager-level-men say they are 12 times more likely to be hesitant about 1-on-1 meetings with a junior woman than they are a junior man, 9 times more likely to be hesitant to travel with a junior woman for work than a junior man.

This is deeply troubling. On one hand, we are trying to increase the percentage of women in the workforce & we are now seeing more women in senior leadership, but this trend will take us down. What we need is a place where men can mentor women & have open dialogues to help women just like they help men. We need companies to create an atmosphere where such fears don’t exist.

Someone even suggested having open door meetings, if things are that scary for men. That’s not a bad suggestion.

This false fear cannot ruin the progress we have made in the last decade. Men in the workplaces have to step up, now more than before. #MentorHer #LeanIn
