‘My designation is the same since two years. I feel stuck. What should I do?’
Designations are important. But they don’t stop you from taking up more responsibilities & fast-tracking your career.
Did anyone stop you from taking up more initiatives or challenges at your company?’ I asked him.
‘Not really. But I don’t know whether I should do more or will I be stepping on someone’s toes,’ he said.
This was a genuine concern in his mind. I told him that it’s important to understand that ‘designation is not supreme.’ You might be a less experienced person in your team, but that doesn’t stop you from taking up ownership, being proactive & making a mark for yourself.
If you show great passion, work hard & work smart, you will see that people will start looking up to you irrespective of your age or title.
Don’t wait for anyone to give you the power. Believe in taking the power in your hands by believing in yourself & bringing results for your company. That’s when you see designations will change quickly.
It’s a wrong way to say that I will do things only when I get a bigger title. It has to work the other way around.
Earn your title by doubling your responsibilities.
